What to DO?

If you want the full 'Rockies Encounter' you may want to plan some epic activities to expand your horizons, and fill your mountain loving heart.

Canadian Rockies Experience has fully customizable, high quality tours. Whether you just want to see the sights or get out on the trails, these pros will have you saying WOW at every turn.

Wilderness Equipment Rentals can save you the trouble of schlepping gear across the country so you can enjoy your favourite activities or try some new ones! From E-Bikes to camping equipment, you will be able to create a one of a kind experience during your stay. They have plenty of local knowledge and experience to share to make your mountain time   memorable.

CanRock Guides provides more advanced trips in mountainous terrain. If you love climbing, mountaineering, or even via ferrata, shoot them a message. There are courses available for those looking to learn additional skills.

Active By Nature is run by energetic hiking guide Mandy Johnson. She  provides walks and hikes to suit your abilities. You will enjoy a local perspective and stunning views on any experience. One of Mandy's specialties is Nordic Walking, and poles are provided with each walk or hike.

Bow Valley SUP is my go-to place for a stand up paddle board. They have kayaks and river surfing gear as well. There is even a Banff location to keep you on the right side of keeping our waterways healthy and free of invasive water gremlins.

Wild Grazing is amazing. If you are a lover of picnics and excellent food, this is for you. You can place your order just a couple of days in advance for pick up in Canmore or Banff.

Alpine Helicopters does preset and customized flights. Imagine the picnic or proposal of your dreams. They are a much loved fixture here in the Bow Valley.

Canmore Cave Tours will blow your mind. If you've never been inside a cave before, prepare for a genuinely interesting, safe, FUN activity.

Where to Stay?

Canmore

Laura & Michaels Air BnB!  These are friends of mine, and two of the coolest, kindest, hardest working people I've ever met.

Lady MacDonald Inn is SO charming. I stayed here many years ago, before moving to Canmore, and everything about it was perfect.

Basecamp Resorts has walkable locations in Canmore so you can wander this beautiful town to your hearts content.

Exshaw (super close to Canmore)

Chris & Monika's Air BnB  I first met these two international adventurers at the Canmore Mountain Market (Thursdays in summer) and soon after Monika came to work at my then part time job. We've been friends ever since. They go to markets, festivals, and events with the sweetest coffee van (Penny) you ever saw. They are The Rocky Bean Co as well.  See The entry for events below.

Kananaskis

Sundance Lodges has camping spaces, Trappers Tent's and Tipis! I stayed in a Tipi with my youngest daughter after a day of rafting. It was super cool.

Going for food?

I *love* going out for food, and while dining inside can be very nice, I'm a freak for a patio. If a patio feels more like sitting in a parking lot, or in traffic, I will avoid recommending it.

Canmore

Summit Cafe is one of my favourite early morning stops for breakfast or a treat for the trail. The patio is lovely, the service is friendly, and the food is always delicious.

The Rose and Crown in Canmore is, hands down, the best patio experience in the Bow Valley. The food, beer, and views are all wonderful.

Crazy Weed is an 'only in Canmore' dining experience, inside or out. For a relentlessly innovative menu, and eclectic atmosphere, make a reservation at this family owned gem.

Banff

The Bison is a place you take someone you really want to treat someone to something special. Great food, service, and atmosphere. You use the same door to go here as for the  more casual dining downstairs at...

The Bear Street Tavern is a little loud, has a friendly vibe, and really nice flatbread pizza. Their patio gets a nod for being beautiful, and away from the street.

Eddie Burger Bar makes all of my burger dreams come true. Paired with a beer, or 2, it's whatever Burger Heaven feels like.
